Many kilometers ago, I used to wear this pair of snickers which we paid NZD19.95 from The Warehouse for various outdoor activities including walking and very seldom, running.
Most of the time, no, everytime when I walked, I always suffered terrible pain around the outer lower part of my shin. They called it shin splint.
That happened way before I decided to try the Half Marathon end of this year. When I started taking up running seriously, I thought to myself this shin splint problem have to stop. Otherwise I will never be able to walk a kilometer, needless to say twenty-one.
Luckily one of our dear friends was a Marathone runner and after I told her my problem, first thing she said to me was: BACK OFF AND STOP RUNNING!! In shock (and in tears, just a little bit, and I mean only a weenie bit) I told her softly, in a shivering voice: But, but... I can't pull out now... She cracked up and said to me chances are I was using the wrong type of running shoe, then kindly lended me a pair of her 'running' shoe she used for fishing (??) Yep that's what I thought.
Ok~ If she said this pair of shoes are good, it must be kinda good, eventhough she wore it for fishing...
It is a pair of female shoes, wore on my feet, might look a bit feminine but hey, I've been gay for so many years, you think a pair of female shoes will make me feel bad?
Surprisingly, after many early mornings,
And after many steps and kilometers,
Shin splint kissed my arse goodbye.
To find out the real cause for this shin problem, we went to Athlete's Foot.
After I stepped on their Fitprint shoe fitting system and did a few tests,
We found out that my feet rolled out when walking/running. No, it doesn't mean that my feet are abnormal, it just mean my feet rolled out when walking/running...
There is a name for it, called underpronation. More information click here.
So, in another words, I'm all roll out.
